‘The role of design in social innovation’ – talk by Senior Lecturer Selena Griffith

Selena Griffith, Senior Lecturer, School of Design Studies
‘The role of design in social innovation’
When: F219 at 7pm Thursday 2 June 2011
When: COFA Cnr Greens Rd & Oxford Street, Paddington.
Social innovation is a response to challenges that are faced by the broader community. These are generally
addressed through local, grass roots actions often requiring design input. The aim of these activities is to create
resilience.
Griffith has been researching the various roles designers can play in the social innovation sphere through events such as Live Futures 2020 and developing networks like Social Innovation Sydney.
She has been instrumental in forming an Australian node of the international DESIS (design education for social innovation and
sustainability) Network in Australia and has created a new elective course, Nexus Studio, to support this. Those attending this talk may find opportunities for research collaboration in any of these activities.
Look forward to seeing you on the 2nd of June.
